Felted Flowers

Evolution

Isn't it interesting how things can sometimes change and evolve as you make them and how one idea can lead to the next? Sometimes I start off with the intention of making one thing and half way through it turns into something completely different. Here's an example of the sort of thing I mean.

This is a felted posy that I knitted a little while ago and that now sits on my mantelpiece looking all cosy and fluffy. But while I was making the second or third flower I began to imagine different ways a flower with a stalk could be used...

This was the result...

...A felted pen holder.

I was really pleased with the way this felted. I had to knit a tube instead of a solid stem and felted it with a pencil inside it. And...Ta dah! One pen holder.

But this was not the end of the evolution. Oh no.

I then began to think that the flowers, although very pretty as they were, could be jazzed up a bit and maybe given another little creative tweak.

This was the result...

...Little individual felted flowers (no stems this time) that have been knitted using some eyelash yarns around the centres, giving them a completely different look.

I backed some with brooch pins so that they can be worn as brooches or used as bag decorations. They would also look pretty on hair bands or hair clips. And I'm sure you can probably think of other ways to wear them too.

So there you have it. The evolution of an idea. And three different products into the bargain.
I wonder where it will go from here...
