Hi...my name is Michele and welcome to Handmadebymeg.
This is me tucking in to a good old cream tea. (One of my favourite things).
I created this blog in order to share posts about where I have picked up ideas and inspiration for the things I make, together with hints and tips about things I have found work well or, in some cases, not so well. Yes, I fess up about the flops too. I prefer to refer to them as learning opportunities!
I also share posts showing the finished articles, and links I think may be useful. I hope to inspire others to have a go and get creative as there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of completing a project or perhaps being able to give the gift of something lovingly handmade to someone dear.
I have a special interest in the old traditonal crafts such as rag rugging and knitting. My Grandmother taught me to knit one summer holiday when I was about eight years old. She had probably run out of other ways to keep me and my younger sister out of mischief! I took to it like a duck to water and have been knitting pretty much ever since, and although I enjoy experimenting with lots of other crafts, I always find myself returning to the comfort of a couple of clicking needles eventually.
These days my knitting projects seem to be linked with ideas around recycling (knitting with different materials) and felted knitting. I have also become involved with an amazing charity called Knit a Square (KAS) who provide knitted blankets, clothes and toys to South African AIDS orphans.
Although I grew up in Cornwall, I am now lucky enough to live in glorious South Devon on the edge of Dartmoor and only 20 minutes from the coast. These surroundings should be inspiration enough for anybody, but I also get ideas from lots of things I see around me when I'm out and about, and even from work, as well as the usual sources of places like Pinterest and Facebook.
