Make this cute card to welcome a new arrival

Miniature Sweater

This tiny sweater can easily be knitted in any colour and used to decorate a card that is guaranteed to bring a smile to any new parent's face.

Here are two more sweaters that I knitted in pink and blue using different types of yarn to make different sizes.

blue and pink tiny knitted sweaters

 You will need:

  • size 12 knitting needles
  • Double knitting wool in your chosen colour
  • 2 cocktail sticks
  • 2 beads (optional)
To make the sweater:

Cast on 9 stitches
Row 1: k.1, p.1 to end.
Row 2: k.2, p.1, k.1, p.1, k.1, p.1, k.2.
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: Purl
Row 6: Knit
Row 7: Purl
Row 8: Cast on 4 sts. and knit to end (13 sts.)
Row 9: Cast on 4 sts. and purl to end (17 sts.)
Row 10: Knit
Row 11: Purl 8. Slip these sts. onto one cocktail stick and the remaining sts. onto the second cocktail stick.
Leave a length of yarn to make a miniature ball of wool.

To make the card:
  • I chose to glue small beads to the ends of the cocktail sticks, but this is optional.
  • Glue the sweater onto the card.
  • Create a miniature ball of wool by wrapping the remaining length of wool around your finger two or three times and than around itself as shown in the photograph above. Glue to card.
  • Then have fun decorating the rest of the card.

N.B. The sweater can be made even smaller by knitting with 4 ply wool. Anything finer than this tends not to fit easily onto the cocktail sticks.

  2. Size 12 needles are MUCH TOO BIG. Please tell us what the real size should be.

    1. Size 12 in Canada/UK is equal to Size 2 in the US, does this help?
