Jewellery Making Workshop

Silver Earrings

I ventured completely out of my comfort zone today and bravely went along to a Taster Jewellery Making Workshop run by A & F Jewellery at Creative Creations in Ivybridge.

A & F Jewellery are a very talented mother/daughter team who run a joint business from their Devon home combining their jewellery interests. They take inspiration from the beauty of the Devon countryside and coastline and produce some exquisite pieces.

The aim of the workshop was to create a pair of silver swirl earrings. (No mean feat I can tell you.) Firstly we learned to use the various tools involved and gained a few new skills by producing practice pieces in copper. The earrings comprised of three component parts: a square, a swirl design and an ear wire. And we had to make them all!

When we had completed the practice pieces we were able to progress to working in silver. This was tougher to cut and file but looked beautiful when the components were assembled.

We did all struggle a little to complete the task within the two hours, but we were all first-time jewellery makers so I think we all did really well as it definitely was a challenge. However,  I am delighted with the result and to walk away wearing a beautiful pair of silver swirl earrings at the end of the first workshop was a very good result.

Thank you Fee and Amy for a very enjoyable Saturday morning.
