Apple Crates Made From Recycled Pallet Wood

These gorgeous apple crates started life as the edges of onion pallets.

The first stage in the preparation of the wood, and probably the most time consuming, is to remove all the nails and staples. Then the wood is sanded and cut into lengths. 

The crates are assembled using a simple jig in order to make sure that they are all the same size.

I really love the fact that the appearance of each crate is slightly different due to the markings on the wood. Part of the beauty of using recycled materials.

The finished crates measure approximately 50cm long x 32cm wide and 20cm deep. They can be used just as they are as toy boxes, garden planters, storage containers or as display items for shops or craft fairs. They can also be finished using varnish, stain or paint.
