Materials
Aran yarn in colours of your choice.
4 x 5mm double pointed needles
Yarn needle and scissors for finishing

Abbreviations
K = Knit
p = purl
st(s) = stitch(es)
dp = double pointed
Method
Cast on 20 stitches loosely
Divide stitches between 3 dp needles (6 sts, 6 sts, 8 sts)
Making sure that stitches are not twisted work 20 rounds in 2 x 2 rib.(k2, p2).
Row 21. (k2 tog, p2 tog) to end. 5 sts.
Thread yarn through these 5 sts and pull up tightly. Fasten off.

Making the pompom
Wrap yarn around your forefinger about 20 times. Not too tightly.
Slip the yarn carefully off your finger and tie a length of yarn tightly around the middle of it.
Using small sharp scissors snip the loops to leave loose ends. Trim to make a neat, fluffy pompom.
To finish
Sew in all ends and attach pompom.
